In my work I try to capture something more than simple reality provides. My photographs express the unfamiliar feelings, which so often invade our consciousness. The moments when we can feel something just beyond what our senses can grasp. One moment our lives are normal and following along on a familiar path, and the next we are presented with something unexpected. My work is about those moments where we have to stop for a second, questioning what we have seen or felt.

Reality as we know it is constantly shifting as we gain more knowledge, forcing us to reevaluate our value systems. The unexpected stops us in our paths and requires us to make new choices. We all make decisions both good and bad. Who we are as individuals seems to be a summation of these choices, and this too I like to explore in my work. I love crossroads, pathways, and doorways. Some dark, some glowing with the power of what lies beyond if we make the right choice.

If you were to travel to the places that I have photographed, and view my subjects they would seldom look as they do in final printed form. Through my work I try to transform the reality that I see, exaggerating the strange, and unfamiliar qualities. Through the use of extensive dodging and burning in the darkroom I often change the light qualities in the print, sometimes completely rearranging the light that was present in the scene at the time it was photographed.

My images are printed onto silver gelatin fiber based paper, and all prints are at least 9 inches on the longest side. The prints are archivally processed. They are then thiourea sepia toned, and overmatted on 16 x 20 inch 100% acid free cotton rag museum board.
